Win #2 - Texas Tech knocks off #3 Oklahoma in Norman

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Tech ran their record to 2-0 on the season in games where weather delayed kickoff. The first win was expected versus New Mexico. This one..not so much.

Date:  October 22th, 2011

Location: Norman, Oklahoma - Memorial Stadium

Opponent:  Oklahoma Sooners

Attendance: 85,204

Score: Texas Tech 41 Oklahoma 38

Norman Oklahoma has been a house of horrors for the Red Raiders.  Tech played for a Big 12 title in 2002 with Kliff Kingsbury under center (or should I say in the gun) and lost 60-15.  In 2008 they made the trip with an opportunity to win the Big 12 outright and put themselves in the drivers seat for a National Championship berth.  That game ended 65-21.  Coupled with #3 Oklahoma having a 39-game home winning streak and it didn't look promising for Tech.  Mother nature even got involved and seemingly delayed the inevitable whipping by 90 minutes.

Two teams came out of the tunnel after those 90 minutes.  Only one team seemed to want to play.  We've all heard that sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.  I think this MAY have been an example of that.  The delay seemed to suck the emotion out of the Sooners as they came sleep walking out of the tunnel.  Those beatings they put on the Red Raiders in seasons past may have been in the the back of their minds.  This was suppose to be an easy victory for Bob Stoops and his boys.  The delay also took the wind out of the tailgating OU fanbases drunken sails.  Tech had a shot if they took advantage and started quickly.  They did just that!

Seth Doege and Alex Torres connected for 3 touchdowns and the Red Raiders raced out to a 31-7 lead in the 3rd quarter.  As you would expect from any great team Oklahoma was down but not out.  They rallied with 17 unaswered points to make it 31-24 early in the 4th quarter.  A field goal by Donny Carona followed by a Doege to Tremaine Swindell touchdown eased the minds of Red Raider fans everywhere.  Tech was up 17 points with 7 minutes and 37 seconds to play.  The lead proved to be insurmountable.  Tech hung on for the 41-38 victory.

Another great win for the Red Raiders!
