Edwards No Longer on Team. Texas Tech WR Derreck Edwards is no longer on the football team (and track team) according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. No reason was given, so let your mind wander. Edwards always had the potential to do a bit more, but there was always something lacking. I recall a time when Tommy Mainord mentioned one time that Edwards just had a lack of motivation and needed to be better when Eric Ward was injured at one time. Just guessing, I'd think that it might be a self-motivation issue for Edwards. He's talented, there's no doubt about it, but just not sure he had the drive.
Mahomes Headed to Lubbock. Texas Tech signee QB Patrick Mahomes has not been drafted through the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft and last night he tweeted that he's headed to Lubbock, saying that no team will offer as much as he wants and he'll be a Red Raider starting today (I think he delayed his enrollment a few days until after the draft).
Future SEC Opponent. Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt said that Texas Tech is in negotiations with an SEC school for a future out of conference game. Oh, and ESPN is also in negotiations. Anyone else think that it's just a matter of time before ESPN gets dragged into the NCAA vs. O'Bannon stuff? I'm sure there's a smart attorney trying to figure out how to make that happen.
Kingsbury in Tyler. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury was in Tyler this week, as was head basketball coach Tubby Smith, and Kingsbury was asked about the situation with Mahomes:
"He's tremendous," said Kingsbury. "Very raw, a lot has to do with playing so many sports. He's never focused just on his technique and fundamentals. His upside is very high. He's a tremendous competitor. I can't wait to get around him and start to coach him up."
New Campus Photos. Totally Texas Tech with some terrific new campus photos. Go check them out.
