NCAA Tournament 3rd Round | Top Games & Upset Alert of the Day – Open Thread (Part 2)

The Big Dance third round continues! I’ve got my daily picks for top games and the upset alert of the day. Consider this your open gameday thread for all the tournament action.

Top Games

#6 North Carolina (24-9, 13-5 ACC) vs #3 Iowa State (27-7, 11-7 Big 12)

Game Time – 4:15 PM

Preview - Really heartbreaking news that Georges Niang broke his foot in their first game. ISU looked good, and is a dangerous team in this tournament. UNC is going to be difficult to beat, but ISU should handle them fairly easily. Without Niang on the court DeAndre Kane and Melvin Ejim will have to step up and get points for ISU. I think the Cyclones will win.

#6 Baylor (25-11, 9-9 Big 12) vs #3 Creighton (27-7, 14-4 Big East)

Game Time – 5:10 PM

Preview - Baylor is on a roll and is going for a big win against Creighton. The only way for them to do it is keep making their shots and pouring on the offense. I think people will be impressed with how good Baylor can play when they know it is win or go home. Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson will be pulling down boards and stuffing home monster slams. Baylor can pull off the upset and win this game.

#8 Kentucky (25-10, 12-6 SEC) vs #1 Wichita State (35-0, 18-0 MVC)

Game Time – 1:45 PM

Preview - WSU gets a huge test in playing Kentucky in the third round. I think WSU is an extremely strong team, but I don’t know if they are talented enough to beat UK. Kentucky has some of the best freshman in the nation leading their squad. I usually take my pick of experience over talent in most basketball games. Not this one. I think Kentucky gets the upset and ruins the dreams of an undefeated season for WSU.

Upset Alert

#10 Stanford (22-12, 10-8 Pac 12) vs #2 Kansas (25-9, 14-4 Big 12)

Game Time – 11:15 AM

Preview - Kansas did not play very well in their first game. With Joel Embiid out again in this game it is going to hurt them. They are going to have to rely on Andrew Wiggins to win the game for them. I think this will go down to the last shot. Kansas will get a scare, but they should win this game. I pick that KU barley survives the upset attempt by Stanford.
