The Lady Raiders (6-17,0-12) take on the Baylor Bears (20-3, 10-1) tonight at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, TX at 6:30pm.  These two teams have had very different seasons this year. Texas Tech is struggling in a rebuilding year and has not been able to get a win in Big12 Conference play, while the Baylor Bears have only one loss in Big12 play against Kansas and they lost to Kentucky and UConn in non-conference games.  This will be the 79th meeting and Tech leads the series 47-31.

The Lady Raiders have shown heart this season but they have not able to put a complete game together where they are all running on the same pistons.  The constant for this team is Amber Battle and there have been games in which Minta Spears, Marina Lizarazu, Diamond Lockhart, Audrisa Harrison, Jasmine Caston and Ivonne Cook-Taylor have had good games. The problem is even in the good games, this team has periods of cold shooting and poor ball control. While we have had decent rebounding there has not been a very strong presence on the inside.  Shauntal Nobles and Haley Schneider lack the aggressiveness and shot accuracy to make a difference in that realm.  If this team is to win tonight and get a win over the next few weeks,  they must play as a cohesive unit and they need to play off of each other and make smart choices on their attempts on the basket.  The odds are against the Lady Raiders winning tonight but I always have hope that they pull out the win and at minimum keep it a close game.

The main Baylor player to watch is Senior Guard Odyssey Sims, who averages 30.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg and is 42.9% in3-Pt % and is 82% accurate from the FT.  Freshman Forward Nina Davis averages 13.9 ppg and 8.8 rpg. Another one to keep an eye on is Senior Guard Mackenzie Robertson with an average of 7.8 ppg  and 3.6 rpg.  Freshman Forward Niya Johnson only averages 4.2 ppg and 3.5 rpg but has over 147 Assists this season (avg 6.4 apg).

The Baylor Bears' Head Coach, Kim Mulkey is in her 14th season with Baylor. Her career record is 392-84. She was the 2012 National Coach of the Year. In just 12 seasons as Baylor's head coach, she attained 300 career victories and ranks No. 4 among the nation's winningest active Division I head coaches (.811) and No. 5 all-time by percentage. Mulkey is a former Olympic Gold medalist and has twice guided the Lady Bear basketball program to the NCAA National Championship (2005 and 2012).
