Red Raider Gridiron | Texas Tech Football Recruiting Update

WHEELER AFFIRMS HIS COMMITMENT VIA THE TWITTER | LAJ's Don Williams writes that WR Dominique Wheeler had confirmed his commitment to Texas Tech via Twitter:

He seems to have made up his mind, though, after he made this Twitter post late Tuesday: "TexasTech is where I belong and that's where I'm going. So no questions ask that's where I'll be next year. #GunsUp"

I still can't bring myself to follow high school kids on Twitter as I feel incredibly creepy.

CONFIRMED TWO VISITS AND ANOTHER INTERESTED RUNNING BACK | We've all been following Arizona Western C.C. RB Damien Williams and his visit this weekend for a couple of weeks and now I think we have two confirmed visits, the other being El Camino C.C. DT Jordan Tavai (6-3/275) (Rivals | 24/7 Sports | Hudl video), who is apparently down to Kansas and Texas Tech and will visit Texas Tech this weekend:

"My first thought (about KU) was I was just going on a visit," he told Kirby. "But once I got there and started going through it, I realized I really like it. Now I will go see if I see Texas Tech the same way."

Tavai was a JUCO All-American this past year Kansas has three JUCO defensive linemen already committed, and I've already presented the fact that there are only four defensive tackles on the team, Tavai could probably play immediately for Texas Tech right now only have one JUCO defensive lineman, Lee Adams, on board.

One other name to watch, RB Michael Pierre (5-11/200) (24/7 Sports | YouTube) from Golden West College, who has dropped his commitment to New Mexico St. and is apparently looking at a handful of teams, which might include Texas Tech.

NOTEBOOK, NEWBOLD UPDATE AND I'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE | LAJ's Don Williams has a recruiting notebook where he talked with Damien Williams head coach, he talked with CB LaDarius Newbold and says that it would be hard to change his mind at this point and has this on DE Chase Robison:

Robison is from Memphis, Tenn., Christian Brothers. When he committed to Tech in August, the Red Raiders were the biggest program to offer him a scholarship. Since then, he’s picked up offers from Louisville, Colorado, North Carolina and now Tennessee.

I had this in yesterday's DTN DD:

The other news that's somewhat news is that there are now a lot of schools in on Texas Tech commit DE Chase Robison, as Tennessee has now come calling as well has Colorado, North Carolina and Louisville. Robison has always had smaller school offers (think Arkansas St.) and Texas Tech as the first large school that offered Robison, but I think that Tennessee has come calling as they're about to lose Dalton Santos to Texas.
