It is safe to say we currently have a three dog race for the Big 12 championship. Baylor, OU, and West Virginia have established themselves as the cream of this year's conference crop. You could argue Oklahoma State is a championship contender and if they win on Saturday that is exactly what they will be. This week in the Big 12 brings us two teams vying to remain unbeaten and a bunch of teams jockeying for positions five through ten in the conference.
Baylor (6-0, 3-0) @ Texas (3-4, 1-3) - Saturday 2:30
After having the weekend off the Bears head south to take on the Longhorns. Not that UT is any good, but this will be the Baylor's first test of the season. It will be interesting to see if the wheels start coming off Charlie Strong's program this weekend. I see Baylor getting up big early and Texas having no answer.
Kansas (1-6, 0-4) @ Oklahoma (5-2, 4-0) - Saturday 6:00
OU certainly doesn't have to worry about getting in another offensive shootout this week. They will roll handling KU with ease. Stoops will have to find ways to keep his team motivated the next couple of weeks playing KU and ISU back to back.
Kansas State (4-3, 2-2) vs Iowa State (1-6, 0-4) - 11:00 Saturday
Iowa State is still searching for that first conference win. Maybe this week at home against an average Kansas State team will finally find it. Actually, they won't find anything. Give me the Wildcats 24-10.
Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-1) vs West Virginia (6-0, 3-0) - 11:00 Saturday
You just have to love the Big 12 these days. This is their premiere game of the week and it starts at 11:00 in the morning while they put the KU vs OU game at 6:00 pm. I know the networks control this, but c'mon. WVU and OSU are in the hunt to win the conference and the Mountaineers are still playing for the college football playoff. If the Cowboys come away with a win, they will flip the script and control their own destiny the rest of the way. For whatever reason I feel like this is the end of the road for West Virginia even though I really like their team. Look for a final score of Cowboys 31 - Mountaineers 27 in Eric's Big 12 game of the week.
Texas Tech (1-3, 3-4) @ TCU (4-3, 2-2) - 2:30
I think it is pretty incredible that only one game separates these two teams in the standings. We are both starting to wonder if bowl games are in our future. This is way more of must win for Tech than TCU, but not by much. Be sure to follow VTM for analysis and predictions throughout the week.
