I'm a little surprised that we haven't seen a least a few user reviews from yesterday....so, I figure I'll throw down my ten cents.
-Mahomes is a total gamer and continues to make plays with his legs. Honestly, it reminds of Tony Romo when he wiggles out of the pocket to then unleash a dime (chill out Romo haters). I feel like his 'zing' on screen passes is good. Most of the WRs caught the pass with an opportunity to do something with it. He did have a few 'meh' decisions, although, it was good mostly. Shimonek isn't ready to win games yet. The guy wasn't very good. Webb is CRUCIAL to this team. I honestly could see him start....he looks HUGE.
-The running game is good for years to come. DWash looked solid...shocker. QWhite looks like a weapon if he can learn how to block a linebacker. I saw him miss several blocks and look lost. Felton looks like he'll step up when DWash is gone. Given all these good things...the #1 piece of good news was Stockton running between the tackles effectively. Last year he struggled when we played a team who could set the edge and essentially disappeared. This was extremlely promising and now I'll have dreams of him ripping 40-80 yards rushes on the reg.
-The WRs were average. Reggie Davis looked the same as last year, hopefully this was due to a vanilla playbook. I liked what Cantrell did for the most part. He's just a little too slow to be a consistent threat. Grant looked confident and you hope that can continue. I didn't pay attention to him in 1:1s much, anyone see how he did in this light? Sadler NEEDS to develop into a Welker/Amendola type. There's no other consistent "chain-mover" possesion type of guy on the roster...today. Lauderdale looked good as well. We weren't chucking fly routes much, so he wasn't a huge vocal point. I think this was definitely by design. We didn't see much from Ja'Deion High, Pearson, Dillard, Batson, etc. I think we have 5 WRs that can contriute regularly today. I don't think we have a strong second group at all. These Freshman are going to play.
-The OL was up/down. I felt like the 1st teamers were good not great. There were some plays that they opened great holes and also allowed Mahomes time to operate. The 2nd team group struggled...a lot. I HOPE this is a ringing endorsement for Josh Outlaw and our improved DL. I think Poet Thomas stood out as a massive human, and Justin Murphy looks the part of a starting OL. It's hard to judge these guys though, just from the eye test, it looked ok.
-The DL looked really disruptive. I think Levi looked much improved and I think he will develop into a sturdy player. Pete looked good, to be expected. B-Jack didn't seem to do a ton. McElrath stood out with some TFLs. I didn't notice Alston, Marcus Smith, or Anthony Smith (just that he's huge). Josh Outlaw looked great. He got off blocks, he looked quick, and he also passed the eye test. No question in my mind, he performed like the best case scenario. Fehoko will play and he will turn into a special player...how long that takes is the question. Although, I loved what I saw from him. #12 looked quick and had a few players where he exploded off the line. Haven't checked the roster, but I think it was Zach Barnes? I know he didn't play...Gary Moore didn't appear to have put on weight.
-The LBs look to have potential, but we can't tell how much. Awe looked great, and it's not a surprise that everyone raves about him. I noticed Sam Atoe received starting snaps and that was interesting (good?). I couldn't see who the other person was? Anyone know of the 3rd starter? Dakota Allen stood out to me in the 2nd group. He looks like a Big 12 player and has the build to stand up to a season. I would expect he will get a ton of PT against Arkansas. Mike Mitchell....what can I say...he isn't there yet. After watching the game, it's apparent now why the coaches said to chillout. He will play, but he isn't Paul Dawson, Will Smith, or Arthur Brown...yet (wishful thinking). I think that improvent along the DL will lead to improvement at LB by default. We shall see what happens.
-The DBs looked like a work in progress. I think that Justis Nelson should go to Safety...he doesn't get his head around enough at corner. Bethel looked really fast and confident, which was exciting. Didn't notice much from Dixon, Madison, Polite-Bray, Ward. They seemed to blend in I guess. I know some people raved about Hendrix, but I must've missed that. Based of what Scout was saying, they saw him in nickel...doesn't he sound/physically look like Ahmad Dixon? If so, that would really get me excited. I just didn't see enough from the secondary to think we're good. Guys like Jamile Johnson, Jashawn Johnson, and JJ Gaines will get their chances.
-Special teams were whatever....not enough here to discuss.
