The Lady Raiders (11-4, 1-2) had another loss on Saturday, January 10, 2015 against the Oklahoma Sooners (8-5, 2-0).  The final score was Tech 58, OU 75. Texas Tech just can't get their rhythm down in the 1st half.  If they could play more like they played in the 2nd half they would have had a better chance against the Sooners. The Lady Raiders have been playing hard but not smart. The attempts on the hoop are sloppy and disorganized.  If the flow on the court were like a dance competition, the Lady Raiders look clumsy and stiff and are stepping on their partner's feet and forgetting what the next steps are.  Compared to the competition who are grace in motion and are light on their feet and the basketballs just flow from their arms and hands toward the basket in a smooth manner. The Sooners have  just as many newbies playing but they flowed together and looked like they had been playing together for more than a few months.  My fear is that the rushed, nervous way of playing has gotten into the Lady Raiders'  psyche and the team moral might have already started to get affected and that is a very hard thing to alter.

Tonight the Lady Raiders head to Morgantown, West Virginia for a game against the West Virginia Mountaineers (10-5, 0-3) at the WVA Coliseum at 6pm CST.  This will be the 5th meeting with the series tied 2-2.

West Virginia is currently 4th in the Big12 in Scoring Offense with an average of 72.8 ppg. The Mountaineers are struggling at the free-throw line with only 62.9% FT%.  WVU is also not very strong on the outside and is in 10th place in the Big 12 rankings in 3-Pt FG %.  The Mountaineers are extremely strong on the boards and are in 1st place in the Big12 in Blocked Shots.

The Junior Guard # 23 Bria Holmes is the leader for the Mountaineers. Holmes averages 22.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg  and 2 Steals/game.  Her teammate, Senior Forward # 5 Averee Fields averages 15.9 ppg and 6.6 rpg, and 2.8 Assists/game.  Senior Guard # 22 Linda Stepney averages 6.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 5.9 apg.  Freshman Forward Teana Muldrow averages 8.5 ppg and 5.6 rpgs and Sophomore Center # 15 Lanay Montgomery who is 6' 5" averages 5.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg.

The likely outcome for this game is not good but I have hope that the Lady Raiders have found their center, their calm inner selves and can play a solid game tonight and beat the Mountaineers.

The Starters for today's game are:  Sophomore Guard #3 Minta Spears who is averaging 8.7 ppg and is 78.6% accurate at the charity stripe and is currently ranked 1st in the Big 12 standings for 3-Pt FG% with 49.1% (27-55);  Junior (transfer) Guard #11 Rayven Brooks had 6.7 points and 3.5 rebounds and is currently ranked 9th in the Big12 standings for Blocked Shots with 15 blocks this season; Freshman Forward #32 Dayo Olabode  makes 8.6 ppg and 6.0 rebounds and is currently 16th in the Big12 with an average of 5.9 rebounds per games (89 total this season);  Senior Forward #41 Kelsi Baker averages 10.4 ppg and 5.6 rebounds and is ranked 13th in the Big12 standing in both Offensive Rebounds (2.33/game) and 10th place in FT% at 71.2% (52-73); and Senior Guard #12 Amber Battle who averages 15.6 ppg and 7.7 rebounds.

Keep the wins coming   ..... Wreck'Em !!!!
