SCOUTING REPORT | Quick note, this was broken by WreckEm24/7 and confirmed by the DMN. This is pretty interesting. Derrick is a twin. Erick is his twin brother and I first heard about these two from the basketball court. In fact, I caught this WFAA story on the two twins from the basketball court. They both say in that story that they are a package deal, but I think they are talking about basketball. If you want to watch more of the Neal Brothers, you can check out this mixtape at Ballislife. Derrick is #4.
You're probably asking yourself and maybe me if I know if they are committing to Texas Tech as a pair like the video said or if they're separate and if they are committing to the basketball program too. Right now, I don't know, but it sure would be nice. And Derrick is a top 150 player in the country in basketball, at least according to Future150.
As far as Derrick's football film is concerned, he is incredibly fast and seemingly breaks up the field really quickly. I don't think it was a mistake for Derrick's first highlight to be really nice hit as a cornerback. There are some additional defensive highlights there too. It doesn't appear that Neal is going up against real strong passing teams as a lot of his interceptions on film are floater passes. There are some electric returns as well and those touchdowns don't seem included in those statistic totals. Neal plays hard and I think that I have a preconceived notion that basketball players don't play as hard as players that just play football, but Neal does both really well.
Derrick, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
The 2014 Class | Neal is commitment #10.
