Texas Tech Red Raider Notes for 09-13-2007

DTN News:

A preview of Rice goes up late tonight or tomorrow morning. I am a little worried about the weather for Saturday's game, but the long term forecast says that we should be partly cloudy.

Texas Tech Football:

DMN's Brandon George has an article on the offensive line and Coach Matt Moore. There's lots good stuff in the article as you get to know the linemen's personalities a bit, including this from Coach Moore on switching Vasquez:

"I put Louis out there at left tackle to see if he could do it, and he could," Moore said. "But he had played left guard before, and Reed had played nothing but tackle, so I wanted to keep Reed in a tackle position."

One more, Coach Leach on his center, Shawn Byrnes:

"He's a big, burley, smart guy with a quick first step and a great taste in clothes," Leach said. "Pretty much my kind of guy."

Excellent article by George, but you should click on the story just for the picture of Brandon Carter.

FWST's Dwain Price notes that running back Shannon Woods is no longer an unknown against his opponents. Woods has a good quote about the team never worrying about a deficit and that the staff goes after guys who want the ball:

"There are so many of us who can do things with the ball, so that plays a part in us not being nervous, because we know at any time whoever's number is called, they can make plays," Woods said.

"It's funny, also, how we seem to recruit those kind of players that want the ball, and want to make plays with it."

College and Big 12 Football:

FWST's Wendell Barnhouse has his College Football Insider with notes on almost every conference . . . the Chron's Joe Durarte has his Big 12 Notebook where Stoops says its too early to talk Heisman with Bradford (I couldn't agree more).
