Texas Tech Football
Seriously, I've got the "football Jones" right now. The good news, we're under 100 days. I put up that countdown at the top of the page sometime during the basketball season and now we've hit an important mark. We are close to the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel and it's a damn good feeling. Approximately 3 months from now we'll be cheering our Red Raiders against the hated Ponies. I will be at this game, provided I am able to talk my brother-in-law out of one of his season tickets (actually, I'll be there whether or not I get the ticket or not).
So I promised all of this content after the end of the basketball season and haven't delivered a damn thing. We'll starting next week, we start reviewing some of the Texas Tech teams from yesteryear. I've already got 1989 and 1974 in the can, I thought that it might be more appropriate to wait until after the holiday and until after I finished all of the basketball previews. As an aside, I could use more assistance on the look back at some of the old Texas Tech football teams and if anyone can provide copies of old box scores from either of these two season, I'd be indebted to you for a very, very long time.
I've also got vacation creeping up in about 3 weeks. The wife and I are planning a trip to Ireland and I'm a little giddy about the prospects of drinking all night long and not having to drive home. I'll either, stumble, or walk to where I am laying my head.
Upon my return we'll start delving into the 2007 opponents on the turf. I've already informed the wife, that I intend to breakdown the opponents on the flight to the Emerald Isle, that I was not to be disturbed. As with most of my smart remarks, she ignored me and went on her merry way. This is on it's way, I promise. If anyone has any suggestions, then please chime in, what would you like to see?
In the meantime, I'll continue to scour the web for interesting articles, tidbits of information, and incredibly wonderful pictures of Jessica Alba (probably not safe for work, so to be safe, wait until you get home).
Texas Tech Basketball
I think I've finished all of the previews. "What?" you say. "What about Jay Mitchell and Benny V. and Rodgrick Craig?" Well, I've got perfectly good explanations as to why I haven't previewed any of these guys.
- Jay Mitchell: Although I believe Jay to be a nice guy, we will never have to see him play another minute in a Texas Tech uniform. I would have fits of rage when he played because that usually meant that Tech was completely out of the game. Like I said, he's probably a great guy and he just didn't fit in with this program, but he was an incredibly unathletic big man and that's a bad thing in the Big 12.
- Benny Valentine: DMN's Tim MacMahon had a great story on Benny during the year and I sincerely believe that Benny is a good kid, but he's not a Big 12 player, plain and simple. His height really limits his effectiveness and his ability to score. I would be surprised if he contributes much, if at all, to this team next year, especially with Roberson coming on board.
- Rogdrick Craig: I'd be completely lying if I told you that I know one thing about Rogdrick Craig. Rogdrick was shelved for the entire year due to a heart condition so there's really no telling if he'll come back at all. The way I look at it is if he comes back, then I hope that it's an incredible boost to the frontcourt, but if he physically can't play, then I wish him well.

What's next? Well, I think that we'll start previewing some of the incoming freshman, but I'll probably take a small break from the hoops to concentrate on football. I've had the pleasure of watching some of these kids play, mainly Roberts and Singletary in the Texas State Tournament. The one player that I'm most excited about is Roberson, I think he's going to be an absolute stud and I wouldn't be surprised, if he qualifies, that Hardeman will be a difference maker this year. I definitely think that a number of these freshman will have an impact on the team, it's just a matter of time.
