Tuesday Morning Baseball Notes

I posted the box score and line score from last night's game last night, but wanted to post the game recap from the LAJ too.

LAJ's George Watson has his game story from last night's victory over College of the Southwest. There's a couple of notes that I found interesting in George's article:

The last time Tech (25-17) played a non-Division I opponent during the midweek was also the last time it scored more than eight runs. Monday's nine-run output was just one run shy of the entire total produced by the Red Raiders in their last six games combined.

Although the offense had a decent day yesterday, it was against lesser competition. The offense must get going against TCU and Missouri this weekend. The recent streak of excellent Tech pitching is not going to last forever and at some point the Tech offense is going to need to bail out those pitchers. Watson also has this on starting pitcher Aaron Odom:

The five-run outburst helped make a winner out of left-hander Aaron Odom (4-4). Making his first appearance since April 1 against Kansas State and his first start since March 25 against Baylor, Odom struggled in the beginning, allowing a pair of singles sandwiched around a walk to the first three batters, allowing the Mustangs (20-33) to take an early 1-0 lead.

From there, however, he settled down to retire the next 12 batters. In the fifth he allowed a leadoff double to former Monterey standout Bobby Briceno and an RBI single by Coy Lay that cut Tech's lead to 6-2. He got out of the inning without any further damage, scattering four hits and a pair of walks with five strikeouts.
