The 2007 commitment class is in the books. I've put together the list of commitments and whether or not I think they'll contribute in 2007. As we all know, it takes a pretty special player to even step on the field as a freshman. You'll note that I think that a majority of these kids should be redshirted and I think that's what makes a program strong, when you can keep a kid for 5 years and really develop them as a player and as a human being. Yes, I believe that means getting them adjusted to not living at home, being on their own, being responsible for their own actions, etc. I believe that's all part of the development process.
If I had to put money on it, I think that Amie and maybe another wider receive has an opportunity to contribute. Maybe one of the defensive linemen, but I'd be willing to bet that they are really all considered projects. LaCour has the best chance to start, but I'm sure that there are other options at punter.

Regular DTN commentor HubCityRaider made a really good point in the comments in today's open thread, which was the number of 3 star recruits that Tech's recruited over the past two years. That made me consider that I when I review the classes, I should be taking a look at the number of recruits that start, contribute and those that are spot players in relation to their rank. If I could start building a database, we might be better equipped to make a determination as to the actual "success" of a class. I've already done 2003, 2004 and 2005, but I'll certainly go back and start building that database.
