Texas Tech Friday Morning Notes - The Mustache Returns Edition

Double-T Nation News:

Good news for fans of Masked Rider Kevin Burns, as the Masked Rider Advisory Committee announced that he, along with Midnight Matador, will be attending the Gator Bowl. I'm glad to see the issue from the Oklahoma game behind Kevin and I'm especially glad to see that Kevin, as the baddest mascot in all of collegiate athletics, gets a little more exposure.

A huge congratulations to Michael Crabtree on his winning the Fred Biletnikoff Award as well as being named as aFirst Team Walter Camp Foundation All-American.

I'd like to get into a discussion about what this means to the program as a whole, and we may bring this up again after the season is over, especially as recruiting season will be coming to an end and we might see a more definite impact of the type of player possibly coming to Texas Tech.

LAJ's Don Williams talked with Crabtree after winning the award. Here's Crabtree on what he was thinking prior to the announcement:

"My heart was beating a little bit,'' he said. "I took about three hard breaths, and I was ready. I wasn't really nervous. My heart just beat. You don't know who's going to win. When I heard my name, everything settled down and I was ready.''

But most importantly, however, I appreciated the following two quotes:

"I think that's a big accomplishment,'' Crabtree said after becoming the first freshman to win the Biletnikoff Award in its 14-year history. "I'm thinking about the Heisman next time. I'm trying to set my goals a little higher. I've got to work a little harder. It's a new beginning for next year.''

Snip

"I think I've got to work twice as hard as I'm doing right now,'' Crabtree said. "Come out, try to score more touchdowns than I did this year, try to double my stats or something. It's hard for a receiver (to win the Heisman), so I've got to do what it takes.''

Garry Smits of the Morris News Service talks with Coach Leach and the problems that the Virginia defense poses.

Texas Tech Basketball:

LAJ's Jeff Walker dips into the record book after Wednesday night's defeat of Louisiana Tech, 86-31. Also check out FWST's Big 12 Basketball Insider, by Mike Jones. No Texas Tech news, but some good Big 12 news.
