Open Game Day Thread and Preview: Texas Tech v. Sam Houston State

v.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders (1-0, 0-0) v. The Sam Houston State Bearkats (1-0, 0-0)

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 @ 7:00 p.m.

Television:
TTTN
DFW - Channel 52
Lubbock - KLBK (CBS)

The Numbers:

Texas Tech Statistic Sam Houston St.
57 K.P. Rank -
97.3 Offensive Efficiency -
88.2 Defensive Efficiency -
68.0 Points Scored 86.0
56.0 Points Allowed 69.0
28.0 Rebounds 41.0
14.0 Assists 26.0
15.0 Turnovers 19.0

Keys to the Game:

  1. Slow Down the Bobcats: SHS scored 86 points in their first game and the Red Raiders would be well advised to control the tempo. Texas Tech doesn't have the scorers as years' past and I can't see this year's version getting into a track meet.
  2. Motivate Burgess: I thought it was the play of John Roberson that spurred on Burgess' improved play in the 2nd half. Burgess needs to play better or the freshman will be stealing minutes all season. Burgess is best in the open court and he would be well served helping himself and this team into some easy baskets.
  3. Find A Frontcourt: Texas Tech is going to need more than just Suljagic throughout the year to play the post, Knight & Co. are going to need to find some guys who can play the post, both defensively and on the offensive end. I'd love to see Roberts, De Bem and Cook get significant minutes.
