Rivals.com has a Big 12 preview (the only one I could find), and at least it gives you some insight as to the talent level around the league, some names to remember, etc. Tech is predicted to finish 5th, behind Baylor, Nebraska, OSU and UT.
Roger Kieschnick and Matt Smith were both voted as preseason 2007 Third Team All-Americans (pdf) as voted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Cap Preseason All-America Team. From what I've been able to gather both these guys are special players and will both be sophomores. Kieschnick was the concensus pick for Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 last year.
Also, make sure and check out LAJ's George Watson's latest article on the baseball team. There's a ton of good information if you're looking to get back into Red Raider baseball.
Also, I've linked each player as their bio pages are very informative and well done. Here are Smith's and Kieschnick's lines from the 2006 season:
Player | Avg. | Runs | Hits | HR | RBI | SLG% | OB% | FLD% |
Smith, Matt | .377 | 38 | 69 | 7 | 46 | .590 | .468 | .985 |
Kieschnick, Roger | .359 | 54 | 85 | 9 | 55 | .549 | .418 | .987 |
Tech is also blessed with at least two talented pitchers, Miles Morgan and Colt Hynes. Here's the dirt:
Player | E.R.A. | W-L | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | OppAvg |
Hynes, Colt | 2.93 | 5-3 | 70.2 | 56 | 40 | 23 | 18 | 39 | .215 |
Morgan, Miles | 3.63 | 6-7 | 106.2 | 113 | 52 | 43 | 31 | 103 | .279 |
