West Virginia secures huge nonconference win while BYU also shines from the newcomer group

Texas Tech remains undefeated but lets see how our conference mates performed

The Red Raiders took notes from all of its social media and message board fans last week and beat FIU into submission. Tyler Shough threw to other receivers not named Erik Ezukanma multiple times including three touchdowns to two different tight ends. Texas Tech dominated a weaker opponent as fans expected what “should” have happened against SFA the week prior. Hats off to Texas Tech football Twitter for telling the coaching staff what they needed to be doing. I kid. Tech is 3-0 and hopefully we are allowed to enjoy it and have some fun amongst fans.

Nebraska at 3 Oklahoma

D.J. Graham’s interception was 50 shades of amazing but the Sooner offense was not. The impending blowout never occurred. Oklahoma survives a bit of a scare from Nebraska and is able to stay undefeated. Oklahoma is 3-0.

15 Virginia Tech at West Virginia

The Mountaineers dominated the first half. The Hokies put up a valiant effort in the second half but the effort falls short in the end when a fourth down pass play fell incomplete near the goal line. West Virginia has won two in a row now and sit at 2-1.

Nevada at Kansas State

The Wildcats allowed the Wolf Pack to tie the game in the third quarter but scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to avoid the “upset”. Kansas State continued their strong play so far this season to stay undefeated at 3-0.

Baylor at Kansas

Did this game even happen if no one is there to see it? Ho hum. The Jayhawks lose another Big 12 football game. Baylor also remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.

Rice at UNRANKED Texas

Rice is terrible. The Longhorns shut out the Owls and improve to 2-1.

Oklahoma St at Boise State

The Cowboys survive a major scare and what probably should have been a loss if not for an “unfortunate” (to put it lightly) call by the referees that negated a fumble return for a touchdown. That touchdown would have given the Broncos the lead over an offensively challenged Oklahoma State squad. But the Cowpokes block a potential game winning field goal to stay perfect on the season at 3-0.

14 Iowa State at UNLV

I’ll be honest. I couldn’t said with 100% certainty that UNLV even had a football team. The Cyclones handle their business this week by punishing the winless Running Rebels by a score of 48-3. Iowa State is 2-1 on the season.

Now let’s see how our new conference friends performed this past weekend. Don’t even act like you haven’t at least peeked in on a few of these games.

19 Arizona State at 23 BYU

The Cougars force four Sun Devils turnovers en route to a 27-17 victory. The PAC-12 is 0-3 against BYU as all of the Cougars first three games were against PAC-12 opponents. Ouch! BYU remains undefeated on the season at 3-0.

UCF at Louisville

The Knights lose in heart-breaking fashion on Friday night. The Cardinals defense intercepted a tipped pass and returned it 66 yards for a touchdown with only 13 seconds left in the game. The game was tied at 35 all before that play. Louisville wins by that touchdown and UCF falls to 2-1 on the season.

8 Cincinnati at Indiana

The Hoosiers were ranked in the preseason based upon their strong 2020 season but have fallen on hard times. The Bearcats scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure a win for the AAC over a Big Ten opponent. Cincinnati stays undefeated and highly ranked at 3-0.

Grambling at Houston

The Cougars continued their scoring ways on schools not named Texas Tech. Houston scores over 40 points in back to back weeks and improves to 2-1 on the season.

Overall Big 12 non-conference record of current teams:

23-4 (85.2%)

Overall new look Big 12 non-conference record:

28-5 (84.8%)

*Note: The Baylor vs Kansas game was excluded from the above calculations since it was a conference game.
