Cal Conley has won the 2021 Brooks Wallace Award, given to the top shortstop in the country each season.
Conley finished the season with a .329 batting average, 15 home runs, and 55 RBIs. He was also named to the second team All-America Squad. One of my top Tech sports plays this season belongs to Conley, as he swung Tech to victory by way of a walk-off home run against TCU.
After his freshman year was cut short due to COVID, Cal continued his excellent career for the Red Raiders. While Jace Jung justifiably draws a lot of attention, Cal was consistently making big plays both offensively and defensively. The youth movement in Lubbock was a big reason for the team able to make the run it did despite the numerous injuries the roster suffered.
Congratulations to Cal on his absolute gem of a season and we hope to see him back in Scarlet and Black.
