Earlier this week, the Red Raiders journeyed to Biloxi, Mississippi to take on Mississippi State in a quick two-game series that saw Tech drop two straight. But fear not, Red Raider nation, Tech has a chance to rebound in their first Big 12 match up of the season as West Virginia comes to Lubbock this weekend.
The Mountaineers currently stand at 11-5 on the year, riding a two-game win streak that includes wins against Mercer and Liberty. The Red Raiders should be on the look out for redshirt senior Braden Zarbinski: a two-way player who has had a spectacular 2020 season so far, hitting at .431 with 9 RBI’s. On the mound, the pitching staff for the Mountaineers has been consistent so far, with a 2.43 ERA and 143 strikeouts. Leading the charge on the mound is junior Jackson Wolf, with a 1.05 ERA, 27 strikeouts and a 3-1 record so far on the year.
The Red Raiders have an excellent opportunity to rebound this weekend, the already tough schedule that Tech has seen so far has prepared them for Big 12 play. The same cannot be said for West Virginia, who has had a pretty easy schedule as of yet. West Virginia is also just 6-4 on the road and playing at The Law is always a challenge, the fans always show up and make sure they are heard by the opposing team. Tech will get back on track this weekend, but may drop one along the way.
Series Prediction: 2-1 Texas Tech
