When Sarodorick Thompson was out of the lineup the first few weeks of the season, there were questions to be answered as far as who would be carrying the load for this team on the ground. Tahj Brooks stepped up big time and became the lead guy that helped ease the pain of not having a guy like Thompson back there who could contribute in multiple ways. Now that Brooks is missing some time, Thompson is back and healthy and putting on performances that we’re used to seeing from him.
This past Saturday against TCU, he had 118 yards on the ground and three touchdowns to go along with 79 yards through the air. This effort unfortunately came in a tough loss, but it was good to see that we have our guy back there.
While it is tough to write these kinds of articles in a losing effort, it’s easier when at least one guy was trying to contribute and get us back into the game. This effort put him into the top 10 all time for Texas Tech rushing touchdowns with 29. The record is 50, so if he can remain healthy the rest of the season and return next year and stay healthy then that record is definitely attainable.
Next week against Kansas, I’m hoping that this award will be harder to give out because of how good our offense should play. That remains to be seen, but I have a feeling that we could put up a lot of points this week if we play the way that we’re supposed to.
