Cumbie has spent the past 7 years as the co-offensive coordinator at TCU. Prior to that he was an assistant at Texas Tech. And of course, no Tech fan can forget his season as the quarterback of a powerful Leach attack.
Cumbie will likely bring his version of the air raid to the 806, which had mixed success in Fort Worth. While the Boykin years were quite explosive, especially the last few years have been less fun. This year in particular TCU has struggled with the passing game with Max Duggan at the helm. TCU has not had a top four offense in the Big 12 since the first two years of Cumbie’s tenure.
However, there is a lot of reason to believe Gary Patterson leaned on the offense leading to at least some of the conservative tendencies that hampered the recent offensive production.
Under Wells, Cumbie will once again have free reign to run the show. With no outside interference, he will look to bring back the offensive firepower made famous by Leach and showcased by Kingsbury. Good luck to Cumbie and welcome back!
