Defensive grades: an ugly performance

Oklahoma’s high-powered offense rolled in Lubbock under the lights

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

This was a really frustrating game. Kyler Murray threw two interceptions, and still wracked up a ton of yards. Even worse is that if Bowman does not go down, I think you win this game. But sadly, the injury bug struck again which really sheds light on how bad the defense played.

Secondary: C-

Dorsey had the game of his life with two interceptions and eleven tackles. And there were some flashes of greatness throughout the secondary.

But still, giving up 360 passing is a mediocre evening. Really this game does not fall on the back of the secondary, but there is still lots of work to be done.

Defensive line: F

We got mauled up front, plain and simple. The big boys spent the game chasing, and failing, to grab Kyler Murray and Oklahoma ran for over 300 yards.

They had their manhood taken, and I hope I never see them get pushed around so easily again. They cannot get whipped like this next week against Texas, or we could be in serious trouble.

Linebackers: D-

I am giving the linebackers a little bit of a break, but they really did not play well after Dakota went out. Coverage was really pretty bad, and they generally were unable to make any impact on the game.

Like I said above, when you give up over 300 on the ground no one played well. Hopefully this wakes up the linebackers that if Dakota stays hurt, we need them to step up in a big way.

Coaching: D

I though Gibbs actually called a decent game, the guys just did not execute. Without Dakota, the defense looked lost and scarred out there. They forced turnovers and played fast early but quickly they were put on their heels.

Against Oklahoma we all expected a beat down, but the guys fought hard and kept it very close. But this was a bad defensive performance, that is all there is to it. Texas is reeling, and generally not as good offensively as a lot of teams but they will roll us if we can’t get this fixed.
