After a couple of rain delays, the defending Big 12 champions began their 2016 campaign at home with a win. The match was against a New Mexico team that would not give up easily. The Red Raiders and Lobos both entered halftime scoreless, but it was in the 59th minute that Jordie Harr, a freshman, scored the first goal of the season for the Red Raiders. It only took Harr a few more minutes to put Texas Tech up 2-0 against New Mexico.
The Red Raiders seemed to control the ball most of the game, but the Lobos did have a couple of opportunities to make up for their 2-0 deficit. It took until the 70th minute for the Lobos to respond putting the game at 2-1, but the Red Raiders closed out the game to make the 2-1 score a final. Texas Tech finished the game with 6 shots on goal compared to New Mexico’s sole shot on goal. The Red Raiders are back in action on Sunday against Missouri State.
