Texas Tech Recruiting Roundup: Where will the rest of the 2017 class come from?

The 2017 class sits at 17, where will the remaining commits come from?

Texas Tech's 2017 recruiting class currently sits at 17. Usually classes are somewhere between 20 and 25, so where will the rest of the 2017 come from? The Red Raiders' last two commits have come via the JUCO route in safety Vaughnte Dorsey and quarterback McLane Carter, which I highlight below. It appears that Texas Tech isn't shying away from the JUCO route this cycle, they still have several offers out to JUCO players. So which one of them might be next, or will we land more than one more JUCO recruit?

Vaughnte Dorsey | 5'11", 200 lbs | Safety

Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. (Perkingston, MS)

24/7  | Rivals NR | Scout NR

Dorsey looks like a very solid get at strong safety. He plays the position with the prototypical style. He almost looks like a linebacker playing the safety spot. He isn't afraid to come up and lay the wood and he has good skills when the ball is in the air. Dorsey has several offers including Arizona St, Arkansas St and East Carolina but he ultimately decided to commit to the Red Raiders.

McLane Carter | 6'3", 220 lbs | Quarterback

Tyler Junior College (Tyler, TX)

24/7  | Rivals NR | Scout

McLane Carter is an interesting case. Texas Tech had late interest in him his senior season of high school but he committed to Incarnate Word. From there he transferred to Tyler Junior College where he lead the Apaches under center this year. Carter will be graduating in December with 3 years of eligibility left. The first thing you'll notice is that he's left-handed which is a change from the prototypical Texas Tech quarterback. You'll also notice how elusive Carter is. He's able to move around in the pocket and find the open receiver down field. Sort of like how a certain Texas Tech QB at the moment does.

What JUCO recruit might be next?

Below are a handful of JUCO offers that Texas Tech currently has out. One of these recruits or multiple of the below recruits could end up being Red Raiders.

Jordan Agasiva | 6'6", 290 lbs | Offensive Line | 24/7 | Rivals | Scout

Robert Valencia | 6'6", 295 lbs | Offensive Line | 24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout

Keisean Nixon | 6'0", 200 lbs | Cornerback | 24/7 | Rivals | Scout

Aaron Brown | 6'0", 185 lbs | Cornerback | 24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout NR

Corrion Ballard | 6'2", 200 lbs | Safety | 24/7 NR | Rivals NR | Scout NR

It wouldn't surprise me if the Red Raiders coaching staff gets out even more offers to JUCO recruits the closer it gets to National Signing Day. Texas Tech needs depth at multiple positions and going the JUCO route could help out greatly. Keep your eyes on this situation as it plays out.
