After Red took the 1st game, Team Black would go on to win the next 4 and claim the annual intrasquad scrimmage to finish fall camp.

Game 4 - Hargrove goes off as Black wins 5-3

Hunter Hargrove was the star of this game, going 3-4 with a double, a pair of home runs, and 3 RBI’s to lead the Black team to victory, both in the game, and to clinch the series. Erikson Lanning earned the win pitched 3.1 innings and struck out 3, while Ryan Shetter was credited with the loss, striking out 7 in his 4 innings of work. Team Red had 3 players with multi-hit games, Cody Farhat, and fresh faces Grant Little and Josh Jung.

Game 5 - Team Black walks off with a 5-4 victory

The game would start off with a pair of freshmen on the mound for each team, with Jake McDonald pitching for Black and John Henry Gonzalez going for the Red team. McDonald pitched 4 innings, striking out 1, allowing 2 hits, and a single run. Gonzalez had 4 strikeouts, to match Jacob Patterson and Connor Heffron who also had 4 in Game 5. Connor Beck, a name fans may get used to hearing this season, hit the walk off single to score Orlando Garcia in the bottom of the 9th. This was Beck’s 3rd hit of the game, and the 3rd game in the 5-game series he’s had multiple hits.

After the series, Texas Tech baseball color analyst Jamie Lent had some thoughts after watching the series.

Although the schedule has not been released yet, Coach Tadlock has confirmed the season will begin with a series at Mississippi St. The home opener will be against Cal on February 24th, and the first weekend of March will see the Red Raiders take on LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss in the 2017 Shriners Hospital College Classic.
