It is looking like the Big 12 should go ahead and have that conference championship game this year. There are 3 undefeated teams and two one loss teams in the conference. I know most of that will be resolved as the season progresses, but we still could be left with several one loss teams. Of course if West Virginia or Baylor stays undefeated then we will have that one true champion and more than likely a representative in the college football playoff. This week the Big 12 brings us Baker Mayfield's return to Lubbock and WVU ‘s attempt to stay undefeated against TCU.
Baylor (6-0, 3-0) - Off
The Bears put it on KU over the weekend and actually looked more like the Baylor we have come to know for the first time this year. Saturday concluded Baylor's powder puff schedule and next week they begin the gauntlet. Here are their last six games; at Texas, TCU, at OU, K State, Texas Tech, at WVU.
Kansas (1-5, 0-3) vs Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1) - Saturday 11:00
After taking a thumping from Baylor the Jayhawks welcome in Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are coming off a close win against Iowa State (31-37) and are going to have to be focused if they expect to escape Lawrence with a win. KU is still searching for their first Big 12 win in a couple of years. I think this is the week! Give me Kansas winning the game when OSU misses a last second field goal.
Kansas State (3-3, 1-2) vs Texas (3-3, 1-2) - Saturday 11:00
Kansas State lost a tough one on the road to OU while UT is coming off a strong second half performance that put ISU on ice last Saturday. I believe KSU is the better team and their defense should give freshman QB Buechele all he can handle on Saturday. This one will be close throughout with KSU coming out on top in the end.
Iowa State (1-6, 0-4) - Off
In the first half it looked as though ISU was going to take Texas to the end and have a chance to win. Of course that all changed in the second half when UT took control of the game and never looked back. I was actually surprised the Longhorns were able to pull away which tells me how bad their program has been lately. ISU will enjoy the week off and then host Kansas State on October 29th.
Oklahoma (4-2, 3-0) vs Texas Tech (3-3, 1-2) - 7:00
To be honest I was much more excited about this game at the beginning of the season than I am now. But it is a night game in Lubbock with the infamous Baker Mayfield making his return so anything can happen. Check back with VTM all week for analysis and predictions.
West Virginia (5-0, 2-0) vs TCU (4-2, 2-1) - 2:30
We all know what WVU did Saturday in Lubbock while TCU had the weekend off. I label this as Eric's Big 12 game of the week. TCU is looking for a spot in the driver's seat for the conference championship while WVU is striving to remain undefeated. I will take WVU to win by ten points because their defense will stop TCU from mounting any sort of late game comeback.
