As promised, I thought we'd take a look at the final KenPom Rankings for Tech's non-conference schedule for the 2007-2008 year (for reference purposes, Texas Tech finished 70th):
- University of California, Riverside: 306
- Sam Houston State University: 155
- Stephen F. Austin: 214
- GAS
-
- Butler: 25
- Gonzaga: 55
- Liberty: 215
- Michigan: 54
- Washington State: 29
- Western Kentucky: 144
- Alaska Anchorage: ?
- TCU: 152
- Centenary: 248
- Louisiana Tech: 189
- New Mexico: 128
- Stanford (Dallas - American Airlines Center): 53
- Northwestern State: 186
- Lamar: 227
- UTEP: 126
Some quick math tells us that the average ranking of the non-conference teams that Tech will play, excluding the GAS, is 180. That's freaking outstanding. I know, some of the teams in the GAS might improve this average, but I'm thoroughly impressed by the level of opposing talent.
I think we can all admit that this is a little ridiculous.
