BREAKING NEWS: Mac McClung pulls name out of the transfer portal

McClung has a big decision to make, but if he comes back, it’ll be in Lubbock

Mac McClung has officially pulled his name out of the transfer portal.

Texas Tech got some big news about guard Mac McClung. While nothing is definite, McClung could be on his way back to Lubbock.

McClung initially had put his name in the portal along with entering the draft. His name remains in the draft for now, but if he returns, it’ll be with the Red Raiders.

This is obviously huge on all fronts for coach Mark Adams. This would be by far his biggest recruiting win. Mac had heard from top tier schools like Kentucky, Gonzaga, Texas and Florida, so him pulling his name out is great news.

This doesn’t mean he is for sure back, however. With his name being in the NBA Draft still, he could opt to stay in the draft and pursue his NBA dreams, although it isn’t likely he’d be drafted as of now.

What does this mean for Techs lineup as of now? Well if Mac were to return, you'd most likely be looking at a starting lineup that included Mac, Jacobs, Agbo, McCullar, and Santos-Silva. I’ll take that lineup against just about anyone.

There are still a lot of question marks about what Tech will have, with Shannon still in the draft as of now and Tyreek Smith uncertain on his future, but if we can get those guys back, not only can we compete in the Big 12, but we compete on a more national level.

McClung averaged just over 15 points a game, but his impact was much greater than that. If Tech chooses to go more up-tempo this year, Mac would be the guy. Not a lot of schools can offer that right now. That would play directly into his strengths, and Tech would be one of the most exciting teams in the nation.

Look for some more news on the McClung front, but this is a great sign for the Red Raiders basketball program.
