The first few weeks of the season were essentially the Erik Ezukanma show. Kaylon Geiger was new to the team after signing at the end of May after leaving Troy. He found his groove in week 3 and continued to be a key performer on the outside for Texas Tech this past week as he had seven receptions for 82 yards including an amazing catch for 42 yards on the final drive of the game to help setup the game winning field goal.
Geiger has established himself as a solid piece of this offense alongside Ezukanma which should help open up more opportunities in the run game as well as for Ezukanma who has been double teamed frequently. He has been as advertised and has shown off his explosive playmaking ability downfield that we saw from him during his time at Troy.
He was the leading receiver this week as no one else had more than two catches, but it was nice to see 11 different guys get their hands on the ball through the air as the offense has started to open up for other players besides EZ and Geiger.
This week they host TCU and should have an opportunity to run the ball very well against the suspect Horned Frogs run defense. I think that whichever running back is the focal point of the offense for Tech will be the player of the week next week.
