Tech football lands new recruit, volleyball drops one at home, and Hocutt delivers the goods to basketball

It was a wild, wild, weekend in Lubbock.

We’ve had an exciting weekend across all sports! We saw the Texas Tech football team knock off a ranked Oklahoma State team but that was not close to the only thing going on this weekend! Here are some of the quick hitters from this week!

Lady Raiders Volleyball drop first game at home

The Lady Raiders bounced back to pick up the fourth set in this one, but it was no use as they lost the final set by a score of 16-14. It was a back and forth game that saw both sides have a chance to win. This is the first game these Lady Raiders have dropped at home all season and it sees their record fall to 12-6 on the season.

Derrick Lewis commits to Tech football

Matt Wells just could not stop winning this weekend. The team got another good recruit, this one an inside linebacker that will most likely step in and fill the role that Jordyn Brooks plays in the future. The 3-Star guy is the 37th ranked inside linebacker in Texas and will be fun to watch here in Lubbock for years to come. He chose Tech over offers from schools such as Oklahoma State, Boise State, SMU, and Colorado State.

Hocutt giving out raises to basketball program

We all know about Head Coach Chris Beard’s huge contract extension in the offseason but what about the rest of his coaching staff? That’s right, all of them got some sort of raise in the offseason. A couple worth mentioning are Defensive Coordinator Mark Adams who will be among the highest paid assistants in the country with a salary of $463,000 this season and $503,000 the next. The Strength and Conditioning Coach John Reilly saw his salary over double for the work he has done with this team. This could be a sign of things to come for the Red Raider basketball program!
