Texas Tech Basketball ranked No. 20 in latest AP Poll, No. 11 in Kenpom rankings

After a 6-0 start, the Red Raiders are finally getting some respect.

The latest polls have just been released from AP, and for the first time this season, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are ranked. This comes off of a 6-0 start, something that the Red Raiders have worked hard for.

This team has had its struggles on the offensive end of the floor, but its defense has carried it throughout the season so far, something that both the AP Poll and the Kenpom rankings have given the Red Raiders credit for. For those of you that don’t know, Kenpom.com has a great rankings system that I, and many others, believe is the highest credentialed rankings system in the country. It uses wins, losses, strength of offense, defense, strength of schedule and even luck to determine its rankings, and it ranks every single team in the NCAA.

The Red Raiders have been ranked No. 20 by the AP Poll voters, the first time this season they have been ranked, or even close to being ranked. However, in the Kenpom rankings, the Red Raiders have been top-30 all season long, coming in at No. 11 this morning. That is not a critique of the AP Poll as much as it is a credit as to how accurate the Kenpom rankings are.

Either way, after wins against Nebraska, USC, and a good looking Northern Colorado team, both the AP Poll and the Kenpom rankings have the Red Raiders trending upwards at this point in the season.
