The #3 Red Raiders face an important test this weekend, with a trip to Norman. Coming into the season, the Sooners were predicted to come in around the middle of the pack in the Big 12. Instead, as the Sooners played their first nineteen (!) games at home, they went 17-2 and are now 2-1 in conference play with a series win in Waco. They return home for the first time since ending their month-long homestand to take on Tech in a big series.
Currently Oklahoma leads the conference in both batting average (.300) and ERA (2.73). They have a strong overall lineup, with lead off man and outfielder Kyler Murray having a .395 on base percentage and shortstop Brandon Zuniga riding a seven game hitting streak but batting last in the order. On the mound Dylan Grove will start the Friday game. Red Raider fans may recognize his name, as he threw a complete game when Oklahoma run-ruled Tech in the Big 12 tournament last year. This year he is currently 0-1 with a 3.22 ERA.
Ryan Long and Tanner Gardner are both fighting injuries. Long separated his shoulder and could be a game time decision on Friday. Gardner sprained his ankle and is most likely out at least Friday. He is currently walking on it so he should be back in the lineup soon.
Game 1 - Friday 6:30pm
Dylan Grove (0-1, 3.22 ERA) vs Davis Martin (4-1, 2.57 ERA)
Game 2 - Saturday 2:00pm
Devon Perez (4-1, 3.67 ERA) vs Steven Gingery (5-0, 1.05 ERA)
Game 3 - Sunday 1:00pm
TBD vs Ryan Shetter (2-0, 3.09 ERA)
Game 2 is scheduled to be televised on FSOK+, FSN Midwest (1748 for UVerse), and FSSW Alternate 2 (1757 for Uverse). Sunday’s game will be on FCS Central.
