Texas Tech Falls to #3 Kansas, 85-68

The Red Raiders are now 12-3 (1-2)

NCAA Basketball: Texas Tech at Kansas Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The conference grind continued tonight as Tech traveled to play the #3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks. The first half Tech found themselves down by around ten points most of the way. That changed late in the half with a run that cut the lead to three points with about a minute to play with the ball. But the last minute we unraveled with two bad turnovers and a technical foul call on Livingston that all resulted in KU points. The half ended with the Red Raiders down 37-27. Tech was able to keep the game close most of the second half with the help of Aaron Ross’ shooting. All hope for a win ended with about the 6:30 left to go when KU began to pull away going up by fourteen points. That ended up being the dagger as KU kept stretching the lead and Tech was not able to mount a comeback. Road wins are going to be tough to come by, but the Red Raiders are going to have to win a few if they want that NCAA tournament bid.

Game Notes:

  • Odiase was back on the bench tonight and played some minutes. Hopefully he can stay healthy and get back to full form quickly.
  • The first half Tech shot twelve three pointers and only made three. For the game Tech was 11 of 28 from three point land. I think that is way too many attempts for this team.
  • Tech had 14 turnovers in the game. You can't do that and win on the road.
  • Zach Smth and Aaron Ross were the leading scorers with 17 points each. It was good to see Ross get the offense going tonight.

Up next the Red raiders will host Kansas State on January 10th at 8:15.
