Last night was what some would say a "picture perfect night" for the Lady Raiders. Texas Tech knocked off the 13th ranked Cowgirls. This was not only good for the tournament, but ended the longest winning streak in the nation.
I was actually out of town all day yesterday and I was so excited to see the score, I came home and went to the Tech website and literally about screamed. I am a Lady Raider fanatic.
But, in NCAA tournament terms, this is great! Anytime you beat a top 25 team it puts you one step closer into the tournament, but the Lady Raiders did it in style. They beat an 11-0, 13th ranked, 17 game winning streak, team at their home arena.
Let's look at how this all happened:
The Cowgirls were lead in scoring by T. Bias who scores 27 points, and the Lady Raiders were lead by C. Brown who scored 15 points.
The Lady Raiders were hot from the start. They were actually leading at half 32-27. Texas Tech is undefeated while leading at half. Chynna Brown (the leading scorer) was the hero tonight. She hit a 3 pointer with 45 seconds left to put the Lady Raiders on top.
Beating the WNIT Champs from last year is definitely an encouraging sign from Curry and her players. At one point in this game Oklahoma State led 18-5 in the first 8 minutes but after that stretch the Lady Raiders came back, and they were unstoppable.
Looking ahead at the Lady Raiders schedule. On January 5th the Lady Raiders will return home to face Iowa State. ISU is a very good team and they are led by Chelsea Poppins. A win v.s. State could really push the Lady Raiders into the top 25. Until then, Guns Up!
