Reggie Pearson Jr. has an inspiring story. If you don’t know all about it, Wisconsin wouldn’t medically clear Pearson to play after an MRI on his right shoulder revealed a medical condition. Wisconsin still hadn’t cleared him in the spring and he left the Badger program.
Fast forward to September 4th....he has been medically cleared by the Texas Tech Football Program and is suiting up in the locker room at NRG Stadium in Houston, proving a lot of doubters wrong.
Boy, did he ever prove them wrong.
All he did was go out and make his presence felt with eight tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception.
What a debut.
It would have been easy to give the player of the week to Colin Schooler with his 10 tackles, or to Riko Jeffers with his pick-six that tied the game and set the Red Raiders up for the victory, but the Big 12 already did that.
Pearson Jr. is my Week One Defensive Player of the Week. He deserves it, and he deserves all of the success he will undoubtedly get at Texas Tech.
Reggie Pearson Jr.
Remember the name, because he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
