Finding a positive players performance to point out after a 70-35 loss is not something that is easy nor is it something that I would usually do. However, Herny Colombi stepped up and gave the Texas Tech offense a chance in this game, but the defense just wasn’t stopping anybody on Saturday.
Colombi made some amazing plays downfield and gave his receivers a chance to make plays even in a blowout. The deep balls to Kaylon Geiger and Loic Fouonji were put right where they needed to be and allowed the guys to keep their stride and make plays to get into the end zone. Seeing him give the effort he did even if the score wasn’t close just shows how important it is to have a guy like him on your team. He ended the game with three touchdowns to go with one interception.
Colombi is capable of starting for this team and will likely be the starter until Tyler Shough returns from injury. If he continues to take shots like he was, then this offense has potential to be explosive if they can get the running game going again.
Besides Colombi, Geiger had another solid receiving day as he had 5 receptions for 100 yards and the one touchdown. Other than that, there were no real contributors to the offense worthy of being mentioned. This upcoming week against West Virginia could be an explosive one, and I would really like to see Erik Ezukanma pick up is form from the first few games.
