Texas Tech makes top-10 cut for K.J. Adams

The top-30 player in the country is the perfect fit for Chris Beard’s system, and the physical wing is close friends with a current Red Raider

Four-star forward K.J. Adams (2021) announced Tuesday his top-10 list and Texas Tech made the cut, according to his Twitter page.

The No. 15 power forward in the country – whose position would likely change to a 3 at the next level, included five Big 12 schools in his list, as well as Georgetown, Rick Pitino’s Iona Gaels, Iowa, UCF and Arkansas.

Texas A&M surprisingly didn’t make the cut, despite hosting him for an unofficial visit during football season.

The Austin product started his career at St. Andrew’s, where he teamed up with Jimel Cofer Jr. to form arguably the most lethal freshman duo in the state before the former transferred to powerhouse Westlake for his sophomore year.

Adams led the Chaps to a 33-2 record (16-0 in district play) before the coronavirus pandemic ended the season short.

Tech coach Chris Beard started ramping up his recruitment of Adams back in February and the Red Raiders figure to be in the 6’7 forward’s top-3. Adams has mentioned his respect for Chris Beard and his close relationship with Tech star Jahmi’us Ramsey in his interviews about the Red Raiders.

“It’s definitely an intriguing option because of how the program is doing,” Adams told Rivals.com. “I’ve been watching the way they developed their players. I’m also close with Jahmi’us Ramsey, who plays there.”

The Longhorns also made Adams’s list, but the junior didn’t speak as highly of his hometown university when promted.

“It’s definitely a good program,” he told Rivals. “They aren’t having the type of year they usually have, but they are trying to add pieces to get back.”

Texas did manage to secure the commitments of Greg Brown, an Austin kid, and currently has two former Westlake players on roster in Will Baker and Brock Cunningham.
