One day after Red Raider football legend E.J. Holub passes away, a member of the Texas Tech Basketball Ring of Honor passes as well. This one so unexpected. Andre Emmett, perhaps the poster child of Bob Knight’s time in Lubbock, passed away.

It’s being reported that Emmett was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas, early this morning. It isn’t clear at this time what exactly happened, but we do know that Emmett is a casualty and it is being treated as a homicide.

Emmett played for Bob Knight and Texas Tech from 2001-2004. While a member of the Red Raiders, he accumulated more points than anyone to put on the Double T. He finished with 2,256 points and had 16 double double in his career, seven of which came in his senior season.

He was then drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics and traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He had a short NBA career and then a very nice career overseas. In 2018, he joined the BIG3 basketball league, became the 2nd overall pick in that league and led his team through the playoffs to a 2nd place finish in the league.

Our thoughts are with Emmett’s family and the entire Texas Tech community at this time.
