When people hear Texas Tech football mentioned in conversation, any number of images can flood their brain. From Mike Leach to Kliff Kingsbury, Michael Crabtree to Wes Welker, or Graham Harrell to Zach Thomas. But what happens when they think of Texas Tech football in 2019?
There are a variety of names on this roster that could potentially be the face of the program, the figure that represents Red Raider football on a national scale. The question is, which of these talented athletes will rise and claim that position for himself? Here are a few options, be sure to vote in the poll at the bottom of the page to express who you think will be the face of the program next season!
Alan Bowman, sophomore quarterback
As the starter on the most important position on the team, Bowman is clearly a frontrunner. He showed flashes of brilliance last year despite battling injuries and while his 2-3 record as a starter doesn’t blow anyone away, he has the talent and notoriety to be the face of the program for the next few years.
Jordyn Brooks, senior linebacker
After playing under the shadow of Dakota Allen for the past couple of years, Brooks is poised for a breakout senior campaign. He’s been the most consistent player on the defensive side of the ball in each of the last three seasons (85 tackles in 2016, 89 tackles in 2017, 84 tackles in 2018) and has shown improvement as a pass rusher. He’s been an Honorable Mention on the All-Conference team each of the last three years but has potential to be the best at his position in the Big 12 this year.
T.J. Vasher, junior wide receiver
Highly recruited, highly touted athlete with lofty expectations, Vasher hasn’t quite developed into the superstar Tech fans had imagined when he first signed. He had a modest sophomore campaign, catching 54 passes for 687 yards and seven touchdowns, but in an Air Raid offense, you’d expect at least 1,000 yards from a guy with his level of talent. If he takes that next step we’ve all been waiting for, he could very easily become the face of this program in that Crabtree mold.
