Only Madison Akamnonu days until Texas Tech football

The senior offensive lineman looks to leverage his talent and experience to have a All Big-12 caliber season.

There’s only 58 days until the Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the Montana State Bobcats, which means today we get to talk about one of the anchors of the offensive line, senior offensive lineman Madison Akamnonu.

Madison Akamnonu is a 6-5, 320 pound offensive lineman from Arlington Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas and was part of the 2015 recruiting class. Coming out of high school, Akamnonu was a highly coveted recruit by the Kingsbury class, and it’s no wonder as he was rated a four-star prospect by Scout, ESPN and 247Sports and a three-star prospect by Rivals, and was also a member of the ESPN 300, ranked as the No. 258 prospect in the country. Akamnonu chose Texas Tech over other schools such as Alabama, Baylor, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU.

After redshirting his freshman season in 2015, Akamnonu saw action in all 12 games in 2016 while starting seven of them. In 2017, Akamnonu stepped up and started all 13 games, starting at left tackle for the first two games, but eventually moving to left guard for the rest of the season, and all of 2018. Madison obtained All-Big 12 honorable mention selection for his play in 2017, as he was part of a Texas Tech offensive line that ranked in the top 25 nationally for passing offense, total offense and scoring offense.

Going into his final year in a Red Raider uniform, Madison Akamnonu will play a huge role in the talented and experienced Texas Tech offensive line, as he has now made 27 career starts. With the talent, size and experience Akamnonu possesses, Texas Tech could expect to see an All-Big 12 caliber-type of season from him at left guard in 2019
