The Philadelphia 76’ers announced that former Texas Tech player Zhaire Smith will be joining the team’s NBA Summer League roster. Smith will compete for a spot on the roster this summer after falling to injury during his rookie year in the NBA. Smiths’ fractured left foot came just one year after the NBA’s No. 1 pick to Philadelphia, Ben Simmons, was hurt as well and had to sit out.

Smith’s journey through the NBA has not been easy to say the least. After getting healthy and ready to hit the court again, he had another set back when he experienced medical complications from his surgery, which cost him playing time.

Eventually, Smith finally got to play as he joined the Sixers G-League squad, the Delaware Blue Coats. In the 11 games with Delaware, he averaged 7.2 points and 3 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game.

Now that he is healthy, the former Red Raider star is ready to shine on the bigger stage. During last years summer league, Smith averaged 24.7 minutes on the court along with 7.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Smith was an outstanding athlete for the Red Raiders when in Lubbock and it’s nice to see him back and healthy. Best of luck to Smith on his current journey to success in the NBA. Wishing this guy nothing but the best of luck!
