Even with all of this baseball news, some football news has been made official. Junior running back Da’Leon Ward has announced that he will be entering his name into the transfer portal and leave Texas Tech. The running back was looked at as someone who would contribute this season in the backfield.

Ward came to Texas Tech in 2016 and made an immediate impact in the backfield, starting a couple of games and becoming someone the team looked forward to having back in 2017. Ward then ran into some academic trouble and was redshirted the entire 2017 season. In 2018, Ward seemed to make a fresh start, running for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the season opening loss to Ole Miss.

Ward then struggled through the rest of the season with injuries, finishing with 341 yards and three touchdowns on the season. He also didn’t practice during the spring with an undisclosed reason. With the emergence of running backs Ta’Zhawn Henry and Sarodorick Thompson, it appeared that Ward was maybe on the outside looking in on the rotation.

We hope Ward finds a new home somewhere where he will play because he is very talented. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
