Another Red Raider was claimed by an NBA team as Tariq Owens became the newest member of the Phoenix Suns. The details are not official as to what type of deal Owens has received, but he will play on the Summer League team for the Suns this offseason.

Owens will be competing for a roster spot amidst other talented players, but his overall defensive abilities combined with his shooting should give him the edge for the NBA. He averaged 8.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and more importantly, 2.4 blocks per game. Owens set the Texas Tech single season record for blocks that once belonged to former top-5 NBA pick Tony Battie.

We wish Owens best of luck as he embarks on his NBA journey. I fully expect him to compete for a roster spot or a 2-way contract this summer. His length and shooting will be an asset for him and he will be on an NBA court soon enough.
