The no. 8 Texas Tech baseball team defeated the Dallas Baptist Patriots at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park in their second game of the Lubbock Regional. Originally scheduled for 6:00 pm, the game was moved up to 4:36 pm due to the possibility of inclement weather in the Lubbock area Saturday night.
Cam Warren’s two run homer down left field gave the Red Raiders an early lead. The home run was Warren’s team-leading 16th of the season and his second this weekend after delivering a three-run dinger Friday against Army. Sophomore catcher Braxton Fulford quickly followed with an RBI single to build a 3-0 advantage.
Junior right-hander Caleb Kilian maintained a scoreless effort into the fifth before the Patriots fought back with two runs in the fifth. Junior pitcher Taylor Floyd came in and quickly ended their comeback attempt. He took over for Killian with bases loaded and retired the last out.
Texas Tech is now one win away from advancing to its fourth Super Regional in school history. The Patriots and Gators will play an elimination game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Red Raiders will take on the winner of that game at 8 p.m. Sunday night.
