The Red Raiders traveled to Norman this past weekend to face off with the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas Tech had not taken a series from OU in Norman since 1999, and the Red Raiders ended that haunting streak in style. A series win was a must to stay within striking distance of the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 and Tech made sure to handle business on the road. Most of the pitchers for the Red Raiders were productive, but our pitcher of the week helped save a comeback win on Friday.
Taylor Floyd absolutely handled Oklahoma in his save on Friday. The junior right hander came in for 3 innings of work and struck out 6 of the 9 batters he faced while not giving up any hits and 0 runs in his appearance on Friday. Floyd also had a brief appearance for Tech on Sunday where he came in for 1 inning and gave up 1 run on 2 hits and 2 strikeouts. Friday’s work was enough to give Floyd the nod and now the Red Raiders are peaking at the right time.
The Red Raiders will play 2 games at home this week against FIU on Tuesday and Wednesday before taking some time off for finals. The Red Raiders are now 14-7 in conference play which is a half-game behind the Baylor Bears. With 3 games left in Big 12 play, Tech will be looking for their 3rd Big 12 title in 4 years when they host the TCU Horned Frogs from May 16-18.
