The Red Raiders were in Oklahoma City this week for the Big 12 Tournament and the sophomore from Bonaire, Georgia, was a force to be reckoned with.
The Red Raider’s first match up of the tournament was on Wednesday against the Kansas State Wildcats, and Gabe Holt was one of only two Red Raiders with a multi-hit game, but that was just the beginnings. The Red Raiders fell to West Virginia on Thursday, but Holt recorded the only run of the game for the Red Raiders in the third. He was one of four Red Raiders hit by pitches on the day.
Against the Kansas Jayhawks, Gabe Holt hit the deciding home run in the seventh to give the Texas Tech Red Raiders the lead. Holt’s home run came in a 5-5 game with Marusak on first and no outs. Friday’s dinger was his third home run of the season and the third time he has driven in the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning or later this year.
The Red Raiders faced West Virginia once again on Saturday, and they managed to stay right on the Mountaineers’ heels to eventually take the lead thanks in part to Gabe Holt, who scored in the first inning on a single from junior Brian Klein. He walked on to first and then stole second to setting him up perfectly for Klein’s RBI single. In the second, Holt connected on a two-out single that drove in Cody Masters to tie the game, and that was all the Red Raiders needed to keep the momentum going. They forced an elimination game with the 10-3 victory over the Mountaineers.
In the semi-finals against West Virginia the next day, Gabe Holt had a hot start to go 6-for-18 with a home run and a team-high five RBI along with four free passes, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Unfortunately, he never reached home plate and the Red Raiders fell to the Mountaineers 2-0.
Stay tuned as the Red Raiders face Army on Friday in the Lubbock Regional.
