Volleyball drops first game to Italian National Team after a huge effort

Coach Graystone’s athletes fought hard against a professional team, and this was fantastic

On Tuesday, the Red Raiders volleyball team played its first game of the Italian tour, with an open scrimmage against the Italian National Team “B”. After a sightseeing tour in the morning, the athletes reached the Centro Pavesi, one of the official training centers of the Italian Volleyball Federation.

The game was expected to be the most difficult one of the tour, as the Italian Team “B” is composed by professional athletes who mainly spent the last season in the Serie A, the highest level in Italy. This national team recently earned the silver medal in the World Championship, so playing against some top 30 athletes of the country was a hard battle.

The game was set to be a 5-set scrimmage, and coach Graystone used most part of his players. Every athlete who saw the court fought at her best, and this can only be a fantastic indication for the coach. Certainly, this game was an occasion to improve their international experience and see another level of play.

But the program isn’t obviously over yet. Today, Wednesday, the girls will travel to Lago di Como for another immersion in the Italian culture, before having the second game of the tour. The Red Raiders will play against Italian National Junior Team, with the opportunity to face another quality opponent.
