In 2015 the volleyball team finished the season with 14 wins and 16 losses. It was the fourteenth consecutive time the Red Raiders didn’t obtain a winning record. The glory days of Mike Jones and Jeff Nelson seemed to be distant memories.
Then, Tony Graystone came.
The former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and West Texas A&M Head Coach took the reins in 2016 and, after an adjustment season, began to obtain victories. The Red Raiders had back-to-back winning seasons in 2017 and 2018, also reaching the NIVC finals in the first of these two years.
After these brilliant achievements, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt decided to reward his head coach with a contract extension, that will bond Graystone and Texas Tech through 2023.

A lot of satisfaction came from the words of both Hocutt and Graystone.
“Coach Graystone has revitalized our volleyball program and has made us a competitor in the Big 12 Conference. We look forward to continued success and improvements under coach Graystone’s leadership.”
Kirby Hocutt
“I really appreciate Kirby’s continued support and his commitment to Red Raider volleyball, as well as this coaching staff. It is a privilege to lead this program and I am so excited about our future. We have taken great steps over the past three seasons and I know we are just getting started.”
Tony Graystone
We extend our deepest congratulations to coach Graystone for this important goal, and we wish (as he certainly does) a lot of further success for this program.
