Man oh man. Coming off of a National Championship appearance, Kirby Hocutt publicly stated that he was going to give Chris Beard some sort of raise. He said it would happen sooner rather than later and a week and a half later, it hasn’t happened. Could this be just a product of both guys being busy, or is there a bigger problem underlying?
On the Kirby Hocutt Show, Texas Tech deputy athletic director Tony Hernandez said the contract extension negotiations with Chris Beard are ongoing but the goal and expectation is that he will be at Texas Tech for a long time.

Let’s all calm down at first sight of that question. I don’t think that there is anything going on here other than both sides being extremely busy at this time of the year. Beard is on the recruiting trail hard trying to make up for the time he and his staff lost during the NCAA Tournament. Hocutt is also busy with all the other spring sports going on including baseball and softball.

There could be terms that both sides haven’t come to agreements on, such as assistant raises and maybe even opening up some money to pay your grad assistants more. There could be other terms the two sides haven’t come to agreements on such as salary and time but I don’t see those two being very hard to agree to.

I’m sure that both sides want to get this done, and soon. There might be some sort of announcement in the near future and it could even be announced after Jarrett Culver’s announcement on Thursday. No matter what I’m sure that both sides will get what they want out of the deal.
