Pitcher of the week: A complete game shutout

After a losing weekend there was one bright spot

Texas Tech is struggling to put both pitching and batting together in conference play, but Sunday was a bright spot after losing the first two contests to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Kilian has been on fire in the last few weeks earning his 5th straight win improving his record to 5-2.

Kilian was in complete control in Morgantown this weekend. He gave up 2 hits, 0 walks, 0 earned runs, and recorded 9 strikeouts. The complete game shutout helped the Red Raiders stay at .500 in Big 12 conference play.

Tech avoided a sweep thanks to Kilian’s performance, but this team now stands at 6-6 in conference play in a three-way tie for 4th place. The good news for the Red Raiders is that the they only have one more conference series on the road and they will host all three teams ahead of them – Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma State – in the conference standings at Rip Griffin park before the end of the season.

Kilian and company will go to Durham, North Carolina this week to take on the same Duke Blue Devils team that they eliminated in the super regionals a year ago. The Red Raiders will then head back home for a weekend series against the 1st place Baylor Bears who boast an 8-3 conference record.
